Moving the blog

We are moving this blog to a new address - it is now going to be called The Three Dough Boys.
Since each of our boys love to cook, we thought we would combine all of their tasty talents and spread the joy :)

Come check out what the boys are up to...

BARBIE ?!!??

The only way that Ray would ever make a Barbie cake would be if his Grandma asked him. Guess what - she did :) Its a Wilton Barbie pan and the Barbie face/hair is actually a plastic insert.

Daisy Shower Cake

This was for a wedding shower. Navy and daisies were the request. The cake is part homemade yellow and part homemade chocolate. Buttercream icing and the flowers are the tastiest fondant ever. (From cakecentral - rhondas ultimate MMF recipe) Cake size is a 10x10 and i guess its 4" tall.

Mr Smiths Birthday Cake - If you have seen Mrs Smiths cake, then you know how hard this one was to make. Mrs Smiths cakes ROCK!!!

Ray went simple - white cake with buttercream icing from an old Wilton Home Instruction Class Notebook. Kinda funny that you could take the class via mail order. Quite tasty but a little harder to work with.

'SMASH' Cake

This was a last minute cake we made for a 1st birthday 'SMASH' cake. Apparently the pros mean it when they say let your cake sit more a day or 2. Sitting for 1 hour doesnt firm it up much :) It was a scratch white cake with buttercream icing. We didnt notice the edge icing was falling until we delivered it - oppss. Hopefully the little girl wont mind a little bit of a ruffled edge.

Dads Birthday Cake

Due to time, Raymond wasnt able to make a 'fancy' cake for Dads bday. So he made a Stately Coconut Cake, orange/lemon filling with Boiled icing. It was quite tasty! He had bought a pack of 20 black candles for it - luckily it wasnt the 43 he needed - we probably would have had to call the fire department.

Skeeter

This was not a hard cake but a very time consuming cake. Used bundt cakes and fondant for icing. At one point there were 6 of us making fondant balls to smoosh and put on for scales. The young lady who this was made for has a similar looking snake named Skeeter.

Brothers Birthday Cake

This one was a little tricky - we were on vacation in a beach house. I brought the wrong tips and there were no supplies to make BC icing. So with store bought icing and one little tip R made this. We did manage to have a ball cake pan. I think he did good considering all the obstacles. :)

Feathers

This cake was supposed to be the big topsy turvy cake but the # at the party changed so she downsized. It is for 2 girls 13th birthday. One cant have red dye so we opted for feathers instead. It is a 3 layer 9" strawberry cake with marshmallow fondant. Cake looks little in all those feathers :)

Memorial Day Creations

Ray made 2 this weekend - one was a 2-layer 9" homemade strawberry cake with buttercream icing and strawberries on top.

The 2nd one was a 10x10 homemade white cake with tons of marshmallow fondant. Hamburgers, hot dogs, spilled lemonade. Plus watermelon and knife to cut with (only a boy would think of that detail) The grass is buttercream icing. Of course both were ideas copies from cakecentral.com

Topsy-Turvy Attempt

We had been asked to make a topsy-turvy cake. Ray had never used fondant to cover a cake so we werent sure how to attempt this. After a couple of website instructions - we attempted a 'small' version. It wasnt as bad as we thought it would be. The next one will definitely be taller. Still 2 levels I think but just double the height and a little wider size pan too. These were 6" & 5" pans. Overall I think it turned out very nice!

More Cakes

All Rays cakes are made with buttercream icing and decorations are from fondant.

This was made for a friends 8th bday

This was a request from a special friend. She needed a cake for a friend who was graduating form A&M with a meteorology degree. The tornado is made out of fondant.

This is a very special one - he made this for his Dad. We found lots of ideas on Cake Central and he combined lots of them. He let his brothers and sisters make the pills for the cake. Everything on top is made from fondant.

This was for his brothers 8th bday. The light sabers and stars on the side are made out of fondant. The flames are out of buttercream.

Cakes By Ray

Ray just finished up the Wilton Class 1 Cake decorating class. Here is some pics of his work.

1st cake for class

2nd cake - this is the clown cake. He put 4 clowns on it - his dad, two brothers and himself playing 'dog-pile' .

For his final class cake, he made his own birthday cake. Miss Cookies (our teacher) made him the fondant center.
